Since most of my phone calls are <span class=\"caps\">VOIP<\/span>, when my <span class=\"caps\">PC<\/span> freezes it cuts me off, which isn\u2019t great for busi\u00adness or my peace of mind. So I set about try\u00ading to find the&nbsp;cause.<\/p>\n<p>One poten\u00adtial cause of these sorts of crashes is old drivers. So I updated the sound card drivers, the mouse driver, the video card driver, and most oth\u00aders I could find. Net effect on freezes: zero.<\/p>\n<p>Some web site sug\u00adges\u00adted <em>old ver\u00adsions of Java<\/em> might be a prob\u00adlem. I unin\u00adstalled Java com\u00adpletely, and rein\u00adstalled the latest. Net effect: zero, except for muck\u00ading up my install\u00ada\u00adtion of Eclipse and cost\u00ading me time play\u00ading around with envir\u00adon\u00adment set\u00adtings to get the right com\u00adbin\u00ada\u00adtion of Java ver\u00adsions set up&nbsp;again.<\/p>\n<p>The fam\u00adous (infam\u00adous?) Win\u00addows <code>chkdsk<\/code> pro\u00adgram found no errors.<\/p>\n<p>Check\u00ading wheth\u00ader any import\u00adant ker\u00adnel files had been cor\u00adrup\u00adted, using <code>system32\/sfc.exe<\/code>, showed no problems.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has a <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-US\/windows7\/Diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer\">Memory Dia\u00adgnost\u00adic Tool<\/a>, worth a try. Res\u00adult: no appar\u00adent memory issues.<\/p>\n<p>At this stage I was run\u00adning out of good ideas, so I tried some\u00adthing more ran\u00addom and moved the <span class=\"caps\">USB<\/span> cables for the mouse and key\u00adboard to dif\u00adfer\u00adent <span class=\"caps\">USB<\/span> slots on the back of the <span class=\"caps\">PC<\/span>. I did this two weeks ago, and the sys\u00adtem has\u00adn\u2019t frozen since. Coin\u00adcid\u00adence?
