{"id":123,"date":"2006-04-27T13:57:56","date_gmt":"2006-04-27T20:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.laurenwood.org\/anyway\/?p=123"},"modified":"2007-02-16T16:38:08","modified_gmt":"2007-02-17T00:38:08","slug":"bcnet-liberty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.laurenwood.org\/anyway\/2006\/04\/bcnet-liberty\/","title":{"rendered":"BCNet Liberty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes\u00adter\u00adday I gave a talk at the (for\u00adtu\u00adnately) loc\u00adal <span class=\"caps\">BCNET<\/span>\/Netera Con\u00adver\u00adging Minds Con\u00adfer\u00adence. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcnet.ca\">BCNet<\/a> builds net\u00adworks for the <span class=\"caps\">BC<\/span> research and edu\u00adca\u00adtion com\u00admunity, and the con\u00adfer\u00adence was aimed at the admin\u00adis\u00adtrat\u00adors, deans,  and <span class=\"caps\">IT<\/span> man\u00adagers who need to know what tools their research\u00aders and stu\u00addents would find use\u00adful. The con\u00adfer\u00adence agenda had talks on lots of sub\u00adjects rel\u00adev\u00adant to that audi\u00adence, ran\u00adging from high per\u00adform\u00adance com\u00adput\u00ading, net\u00adwork\u00ading, and  secur\u00adity and iden\u00adtity man\u00adage\u00adment to advanced media and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>My talk was about Liberty spe\u00adcific\u00ada\u00adtions, of course. Since I was slot\u00adted for a 1.5 hour talk, I asked Alex Acton from the Sun Van\u00adcouver office to help out. I presen\u00adted the slides, Alex drove the demos, we got lots of great ques\u00adtions, went 15 minutes over\u00adtime and still only got through 29 of the 41 slides. It was prob\u00adably more use\u00adful to the audi\u00adence that way, of course! I like hav\u00ading a small enough audi\u00adence that more free-form talk\u00ading and listen\u00ading ses\u00adsions are viable. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurenwood.org\/talks\/wood-bcnet-apr2006.pdf\">Here<\/a> are the slides (in <span class=\"caps\">PDF<\/span> format) for pos\u00adter\u00adity, includ\u00ading those I did\u00adn\u2019t get a chance to present.<\/p>\n<p>I had lots of help on cre\u00adat\u00ading these from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xmlgrrl.com\/blog\/\">Eve<\/a>, I used demos from <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.com\/superpat\/\">Pat<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.com\/hubertsblog\/\">Hubert<\/a> (Hubert also cre\u00adated good slides for the recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectliberty.org\/\">Liberty<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/searchwebservices.techtarget.com\/originalContent\/0,289142,sid26_gci1179971,00.html\">web\u00adcast <\/a> that I could reuse), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/content.asp?page_id=750&amp;ID=116949&amp;bhcp=1\">Scott Can\u00adtor<\/a> sent me slide decks on Shib\u00adboleth to crib inform\u00ada\u00adtion from, and most of the deploy\u00adment inform\u00ada\u00adtion comes from Yvonne Wilson\u2019s excel\u00adlent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idealliance.org\/proceedings\/xml05\/abstracts\/paper154.HTML\">talk <\/a> at <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> 2005.
