In prin\u00adciple I\u2019m in favour of the \u2018log in with X\u2019 way of doing things (mod\u00adulo user exper\u00adi\u00adence issues such as try\u00ading to remem\u00adber which ser\u00advice you picked to sign up with in the first place). There is, how\u00adever, more to it than that in some cases. Example: using the online repos\u00adit\u00adory ser\u00advice bit\u00adbuck\u00adet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sign\u00ading up in the first place with one of my Google accounts worked as expec\u00adted. The next step, of adding a git repos\u00adit\u00adory and push\u00ading files to it, was a little more com\u00adplic\u00adated. You need to use a reg\u00adu\u00adlar pass\u00adword for git push and, of course, bit\u00adbuck\u00adet does\u00adn\u2019t have the pass\u00adword for my Google account. And I did\u00adn\u2019t have a reg\u00adu\u00adlar pass\u00adword for the account, hav\u00ading set it up using my Google account, so I had to go through the pass\u00adword-reset dance to cre\u00adate a new pass\u00adword that bit\u00adbuck\u00adet is allowed to know.<\/p>\n

In oth\u00ader words, for these sorts of ser\u00advices I need a pass\u00adword that the ser\u00advice is allowed to know; log\u00adging in with oth\u00ader ser\u00advices is an add-on but not a replace\u00adment. This isn\u2019t hard to under\u00adstand when you stop and think about what\u2019s going on (in the browser the ser\u00advice relies on a lot of browser redir\u00adects which aren\u2019t avail\u00adable in the com\u00admand line), but it did take me a minute or two to fig\u00adure out that I would have to reset my here\u00adto\u00adfore blank pass\u00adword to get one that I could use. (Bit\u00adbuck\u00adet also sup\u00adports SSH<\/span> iden\u00adtit\u00adies<\/a> and I\u2019ll prob\u00adably set that up instead of the password.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
