If <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.com\/racingsnake\/entry\/damn_i_got_tagged_by\">Robin<\/a> can get <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.com\/suncpo\/entry\/robin_wilton_is_a_naughty\">Michelle Dennedy<\/a> to dis\u00adclose things in pub\u00adlic, I guess I should ful\u00adfil my oblig\u00ada\u00adtions as well. Be a good net\u00adizen and all that. But I\u2019m not going to tag any\u00adone, par\u00adtially to be con\u00adtrary, par\u00adtially because people deserve time off from their blogs over the winter break, and par\u00adtially because lots of inter\u00adest\u00ading people I know who have not yet been tagged don\u2019t actu\u00adally&nbsp;blog.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I grew up on a farm in New Zea\u00adl\u00adand. So I know quite a lot about farm\u00ading: dairy, pigs, a little about sheep. And the ubi\u00adquit\u00adous ducks, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwidewords.org\/qa\/qa-cho2.htm\">chooks<\/a>, cats, and dogs, of course. Pretty much every\u00adone else who lived on a farm in the area was born there and lived there most of their lives; I was the outsider.<\/li>\n<li>I was work\u00ading in Ber\u00adlin at the time the Ber\u00adlin Wall came down; it was an amaz\u00ading time and I will always treas\u00adure the memory of what real people power can do. If you have a few spare hours some time, buy me a beer, ask about pre\/\u00adpost-Wall Ber\u00adlin and I\u2019ll dredge up as many details as you&nbsp;like.<\/li>\n<li>I got into Web stuff via <span class=\"caps\">SGML<\/span> and got into <span class=\"caps\">SGML<\/span> via a Dutch friend who also stud\u00adied nuc\u00adle\u00adar phys\u00adics; we col\u00adlab\u00ador\u00adated on a pub\u00adlic\u00ada\u00adtion back in&nbsp;1985.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>I do much of the small-scale renov\u00ada\u00adtion work in our house and at some stage will blog about stain\u00ading, var\u00adnish\u00ading, etc. I\u2019ve replaced studs as well, and mud\u00added dry\u00adwall, but those are tasks I out\u00adsource if pos\u00adsible. I\u2019ve dis\u00adcovered that plumb\u00ading needs even more patience than sys\u00adtems administration.<\/li>\n<li>When I\u2019m tired my brain some\u00adtimes switches into Ger\u00adman and it takes quite a bit of effort to make it switch back so I can speak Eng\u00adlish. Tim can testi\u00adfy to this as I some\u00adtimes start speak\u00ading Ger\u00adman to him and don\u2019t even real\u00adise I\u2019m doing&nbsp;it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"caps\">OK<\/span>, I give up.
