It\u2019s an inter\u00adest\u00ading place in many ways, feels like it has more or less achieved what <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orkut.com\">Orkut<\/a> (remem\u00adber Orkut?) was try\u00ading to&nbsp;do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The big dif\u00adfer\u00adence to Orkut is the people who are there, or at least the people I can find who are there. Face\u00adbook seems to have three major groups of people:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>recent and cur\u00adrent uni\u00adver\u00adsity and col\u00adlege stu\u00addents (not sur\u00adpris\u00ading, giv\u00aden where it came&nbsp;from)<\/li>\n<li>par\u00adents and rela\u00adtions of the above, who want to see what their young rel\u00adat\u00adives are up&nbsp;to<\/li>\n<li>Web 2.0\u2011style web&nbsp;geeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not sur\u00adpris\u00adingly, the lat\u00adter group are gen\u00ader\u00adally tak\u00ading full advant\u00adage of being able to add applic\u00ada\u00adtions on top of Face\u00adbook, and cus\u00adtom\u00adiz\u00ading their pro\u00adfile pages, and gen\u00ader\u00adally show\u00ading the rest of us how much time you can spend doing these things. Me, I\u2019m try\u00ading to think through some of the pri\u00advacy implic\u00ada\u00adtions before I hook up my <a href=\"http:\/\/dopplr.com\">Dopplr<\/a> account, and the copy\u00adright implic\u00ada\u00adtions before I start put\u00adting my blog post\u00adings up&nbsp;there.<\/p>\n<p>I even\u00adtu\u00adally deleted my Orkut account, des\u00adpite hav\u00ading lots of con\u00adnec\u00adtions, because I just nev\u00ader went there, the con\u00adtent was\u00adn\u2019t inter\u00adest\u00ading enough. Face\u00adbook is strangely com\u00adpel\u00adling, it\u2019s easy to browse through groups and rely on serendip\u00adity to take you inter\u00adest\u00ading places. A bit like the web itself, in micro\u00adcosm.
