Then each knit\u00adted item you make that con\u00adforms to that knit\u00adting pat\u00adtern is like the doc\u00adu\u00adment instance that con\u00adforms to the schema. Schem\u00adas can be restrict\u00adive or allow lots of instance struc\u00adture vari\u00adations, as can knit\u00adting pat\u00adterns. And, to tie it into my pre\u00advi\u00adous post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurenwood.org\/anyway\/2007\/08\/knitting-and-copyright\/\">knit\u00adting and copy\u00adright<\/a>, a schema can be copy\u00adrighted (and often is). The ana\u00adlogy does have a few prob\u00adlems when you start try\u00ading to fig\u00adure out the rela\u00adtion\u00adship of the set of tags in a doc\u00adu\u00adment instance and the con\u00adtent with\u00adin those tags; if you think of the knit and purl stitches as being the ele\u00adments, then the yarn would be the con\u00adtent. Except for, yarn can\u00ad\u2019t really be ori\u00adgin\u00adal in the same way as the con\u00adtent in an <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> doc\u00adu\u00adment can be.
