I just today had anoth\u00ader example. I ordered some\u00adthing from the U.S. (knit\u00adting gad\u00adgets I haven\u2019t found in stores in Canada) and the order was $<span class=\"caps\">US50<\/span>. Works out to about $53 Cana\u00addian at cur\u00adrent rates. The broker\u00adage fee that <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> charged me to bring it into Canada was $29.55 plus <span class=\"caps\">GST<\/span>. That plus the nor\u00admal <span class=\"caps\">GST<\/span> of $6.85 (to which I have no objec\u00adtion) brought the total charge to $38.18. On goods worth $52.73. When I called up <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> to ask what was going on, I was told that\u2019s the fee. Noth\u00ading I can do about it. Except, of course, for mak\u00ading sure that I nev\u00ader ship via <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span>. Oh yes, I did email the seller of the goods to warn her of the prob\u00adlem and ask her to not ship via <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> for her Cana\u00addian cus\u00adtom\u00aders. And my loc\u00adal ship\u00adping store, which used to be an <span class=\"caps\">MBE<\/span> and is now a \u201c<span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> Store\u201d, will suf\u00adfer as well, since they have to use <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> to ship any\u00adthing out\u00adside of Canada (with\u00adin Canada they still have some choice). Not that I ship a lot, but when I do, it won\u2019t be <span class=\"caps\">UPS<\/span> if I can pos\u00adsibly avoid&nbsp;it.<\/p>\n<p>If you want the gory details, they\u2019re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ups.com\/content\/ca\/en\/shipping\/cost\/zones\/customs_clearance.html\">here<\/a>. $19.45 fee, plus $4.25 <span class=\"caps\">COD<\/span> fee, plus a $5.85 bond fee because I did\u00adn\u2019t pre\u00adpay the broker\u00adage fee.
