I finally got my Ravelry<\/a> invite today. I got on the wait\u00ading list about a month ago, so it did\u00adn\u2019t take long. I spent a few minutes pok\u00ading around, though I will have to be care\u00adful as it could prove to be an immense time-sink for me, with all the dis\u00adcus\u00adsion about knit\u00adting and crochet. There\u2019s even a group for KnitML<\/a> there, which I had\u00adn\u2019t heard of before.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s inter\u00adest\u00ading com\u00adpar\u00ading Ravelry to Face\u00adbook, as well. Sur\u00adface impres\u00adsions: com\u00adpletely dif\u00adfer\u00adent crowd, they don\u2019t ask for any inform\u00ada\u00adtion when you sign up except for an email address, user\u00adname, and pass\u00adword. Of course, you can add info such as birth\u00adday or where you live to your pro\u00adfile, but it\u2019s not needed. Lots of links to sites out\u00adside of Ravelry, thus the site feels much more open to the rest of the world than Face\u00adbook. And maybe because it\u2019s more focussed, it will be more appeal\u00ading long-term (there already seems to be quite a lot of Face\u00adbook ennui out there in the blogosphere). <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re a keen knit\u00adter or cro\u00adchet\u00ader, don\u2019t be put off by the fact you have to join a wait\u00ading list; it does\u00adn\u2019t take long to get the invite and it looks like a worth\u00adwhile resource.
