Anzac Day com\u00admem\u00ador\u00adates the Anzac (Aus\u00adtralia and New Zea\u00adl\u00adand Army Corps) losses at Gal\u00adlipoli in the First World War on April 25th each year. It is extremely import\u00adant to New Zeal\u00adanders, no mat\u00adter what their polit\u00adics \u2014 <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzhistory.net.nz\/war\/modern-anzac-day\">Anzac Day enjoys unusu\u00adal rev\u00ader\u00adence in a coun\u00adtry where emo\u00adtion\u00adal pub\u00adlic rituals are oth\u00ader\u00adwise absent.<\/a><\/cite><\/p>\n<p>As a child, I nev\u00ader went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzhistory.net.nz\/media\/photo\/dawn-service-auckland-1986\">Dawn Ser\u00advice<\/a> (liv\u00ading on a dairy farm, the cows are milked at dawn wheth\u00ader it\u2019s Anzac Day or not). Nev\u00ader\u00adthe\u00adless, it seems the right time of day to me, the sun slowly rising up the autum\u00adnal sky, her\u00adald\u00ading a new day while the liv\u00ading remem\u00adber the sac\u00adri\u00adfices made by so many. I under\u00adstand why the Remem\u00adbrance Day ser\u00advices here start at 11 am, but emo\u00adtion\u00adally dawn means so much&nbsp;more.<\/p>\n<p>Remem\u00adbrance Day and Anzac Day are both days for remem\u00adber\u00ading and mourn\u00ading and won\u00adder\u00ading what it will take (or, indeed, if it\u2019s even pos\u00adsible) for humans to learn to nego\u00adti\u00adate with words rather than muni\u00adtions.
