This is the third time I\u2019ve tried to set up a web\u00adlog. Maybe this time I\u2019ll actu\u00adally feel happy enough with the res\u00adults that I start pub\u00adlicly using it, rather than bog\u00adging down installing and testing. <\/p>\n
Unlike many people I know, I decided that my main reas\u00adon for blog\u00adging was to blog, rather than to code a blog\u00adging sys\u00adtem, and that I had no great desire to do so (using someone else\u2019s work and then tweak\u00ading to suit my needs has always appealed). So I set out to find what soft\u00adware there is out there that I like the look of, and could install on the box in the base\u00adment which is my web server.<\/p>\n

I tried Noah Grey\u2019s Grey\u00admat\u00adter, but that isn\u2019t being main\u00adtained very actively.<\/p>\n
Sam Ruby sug\u00adges\u00adted I try Blosx\u00adom, which I did, but that would have required rather more tweak\u00ading to do what I wanted than I felt like, par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlarly since there is a new ver\u00adsion in the works.<\/p>\n
By dig\u00adging around and fol\u00adlow\u00ading serendip\u00adit\u00adous links, I came across Word\u00adPress. It took rather more than the prom\u00adised 5 minutes to install (does\u00adn\u2019t it always) and rather more fid\u00addling around with httpd.conf than prom\u00adised as well, but even\u00adtu\u00adally I got it up and running.<\/p>\n
This web\u00adlog is the result. <\/p>\n
Now the fun of fid\u00addling XHTML<\/span> tem\u00adplates and CSS<\/span> styles and think\u00ading about which hacks to install (yes, they call them hacks, although it looks like they will even\u00adtu\u00adally be called plu\u00adgins) is about to des\u00adcend; expect the look and feel of this site to change as I have time to do this stuff.<\/p>\n For the time being I\u2019m not enabling com\u00adments, track\u00adbacks, or ping\u00adbacks.
