John Chel\u00adsom asked me to help out and I was only too happy to say yes; I have many fond memor\u00adies from pre\u00advi\u00adous years. It will be more a late-sum\u00admer school this year, being from Septem\u00adber 20\u201325, but that does free up more of the sum\u00admer prop\u00ader for oth\u00ader things, not to men\u00adtion giv\u00ading us more time to fig\u00adure out the sched\u00adule and speakers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anoth\u00ader advant\u00adage of late sum\u00admer for the <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> Sum\u00admer School is that it does\u00adn\u2019t clash with <a href=\"http:\/\/balisage.net\/\">Bal\u00adis\u00adage<\/a> in Mon\u00adtr\u00e9al, Canada, which is on August 11\u201314 (with the sym\u00adposi\u00adum on pro\u00adcessing <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> effi\u00adciently on the 10th). Papers for that are due on April 24, so you don\u2019t have much time to get them in if you\u2019re plan\u00adning on speak\u00ading. Any markup-related top\u00adic is wel\u00adcome, as long as it is of suf\u00adfi\u00adcient qual\u00adity and&nbsp;depth.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s inter\u00adest\u00ading com\u00adpar\u00ading the two \u2014 Bal\u00adis\u00adage is a geek\u2019s con\u00adfer\u00adence, unapo\u00adlo\u00adget\u00adic\u00adally aimed at people who are think deeply about the issues, even if they\u2019re not apply\u00ading them at work. The <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> Sum\u00admer School is more like train\u00ading, aimed at less expert prac\u00adti\u00adtion\u00aders of and new\u00adcomers to <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span>, and more likely to be atten\u00added by people who want to go back to work the next week and apply what they\u2019ve learned dir\u00adectly.
