This morn\u00ading on the organ\u00adising call we decided that we need to go punt\u00ading on the Monday before din\u00adner rather than after din\u00adner, since the even\u00adings will be dark soon\u00ader, but that\u2019s about the only draw\u00adback to the late-sum\u00admer timing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Apart from being heav\u00adily involved in organ\u00adising the event, I\u2019m chair\u00ading two courses this year. There\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/curriculum2009\/trends-and-transients\/\" title=\"Trends and Transients day\">Trends and Tran\u00adsi\u00adents<\/a>, a fun day with lots of dis\u00adcus\u00adsion and debate about hyped, over-hyped, and cur\u00adrent tech\u00adno\u00adlogy issues. This year we have <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/tonycoates\/\" title=\"financial XML consultant Tony Coates\">Tony Coates<\/a> talk\u00ading about how <span class=\"caps\">XML<\/span> could have saved us from the cur\u00adrent fin\u00adan\u00adcial crisis (some\u00adwhat tongue-in-cheek), <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/paul_downey\/\" title=\"internet maverick Paul Downey\">Paul Downey<\/a> rant\u00ading on what\u2019s wrong with Rich Inter\u00adnet Applic\u00ada\u00adtions, and <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/richsalz\/\" title=\"security maven Rich Salz\">Rich Salz<\/a> telling you what to look for and avoid in cloud com\u00adput\u00ading. The day is capped off by uncon\u00adfer\u00adence ses\u00adsions in the even\u00ading where every\u00adone gets to have their say in as much length as people will listen to&nbsp;them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>New this year is the oth\u00ader course I\u2019m chair\u00ading, the <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/curriculum2009\/semantic-technologies\/\" title=\"XML Semantic Technologies course\">Semant\u00adic Tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies<\/a> course, where <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty-board2009\/bobducharme\/\" title=\"XML guru Bob DuCharme\">Bob DuCh\u00adarme<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/leighdodds\/\" title=\"semantic expert Leigh Dodds\">Leigh Dodds<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/andyseaborne\/\" title=\"semantic expert Andy Seaborne\">Andy Seaborne<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/xmlsummerschool.com\/faculty2009\/duncanhull\/\" title=\"semantic expert Duncan Hull\">Duncan Hull<\/a> are join\u00ading forces to teach classes in Linked Data, <span class=\"caps\">OWL<\/span>, <span class=\"caps\">RDF<\/span>, <span class=\"caps\">SPARQL<\/span>, and all those oth\u00ader acronyms that are form\u00ading the basis of what some people are call\u00ading Web 3.0.
